When should we start the fertility tests?
When a couple does not achieve pregnancy spontaneously after a year of frequent and unprotected sexual intercourse, it is recommended to start the sterility diagnosis. However, there are some cases in which this study should be carried out earlier in order to optimize the possibilities of each couple.
Thus, in women over 35 years of age, women who have irregular or absent menstrual cycles (secondary amenorrhea), if there is a history of pelvic surgery or problems with the fallopian tubes, this study should be conducted after six months unsuccessful pregnancy search. In addition, in some special cases it is advised to start the study immediately, such as couples with repeated miscarriages or couples with a history of genetic anomalies.
In patients who have undergone sterilization processes, such as vasectomy or tubal ligation, study is indicated to guide the most appropriate treatment, since spontaneous pregnancy is impossible.
In any case, the advice of a fertility specialist is essential to be able to assess your case individually and to be able to guide you on the right time to start these tests.
